About these figures

  • Exporters are ranked by what the covered importers bought from them, so a ranking is not a country's total exports.
  • Pipeline trade is included: Canada → USA, the largest crude flow, is mostly pipeline crude.
  • Where an importer did not report, the exporter's own figure stands in (35 rows, marked * in the tables).
  • 27 rows whose implied price is below $25 or above $300 a barrel are left out as likely unit errors. Three of them are large crude imports reported by Thailand, so its total here is too low.
  • Latest year reported, where older: United Arab Emirates (2023), Viet Nam (2023).
  • Fuel flows under 5,000 tonnes are not in the data.

Source: UN Comtrade annual data, HS codes 2709, 2710.12 and 2710.19 (official primary source, class A). Prices per barrel are approximate: value divided by tonnes at an average barrels-per-tonne.
